Lebanon Otterbein celebrates growth of VBS program
"Let the little children come unto me, and do not hinder them, for the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these." - Jesus, Luke 18:16
Three years ago, we had six kids (most of whom were our grandchildren) attend a one-day Vacation Bible School program here at Otterbein UMC in Lebanon. Looking inward on Sunday mornings, we saw a lot of grey hair and heard too few baby cries. Looking outward at our neighborhoods, we saw a lot of young children playing and realized, through our Mission InSite demographic reports, that too many of them lived in poverty and came from single-parent homes.
“What is the Church going to do about that?” we asked.
Fast-forward to last week, when we had 66 (SIXTY-SIX!!) children attend our four-day VBS! All were fed meals during this FREE week, and all were shown the radical love of God. Many of the kids returned Sunday with their families to sing fun songs and celebrate an amazing week.
What a difference the past three years have made around here! People are asking to be baptized, babies are crying and cooing in the pews, volunteers are stepping up, giving has increased, and lives are being changed for Jesus Christ.
Who would have thought three years ago that we’d be where we are today?! God did, and we’re excited to see what God has in store for us next!
