Greenwood church hosts Mizo Methodist congregation
The Rev. In Suk Peebles, pastor at Greenwood United Methodist Church, shared with Metro Ministries of Indiana that “There’s no doubt God sent the Mizo Methodist congregation into our midst to worship together, learn from each other and engage in a joint mission to transform the world.” Pastor Ralte and his small Mizo congregation of 20 were meeting in his small apartment to worship and share in Bible study. The Greenwood United Methodist Church welcomed the Mizo congregation and began developing a new ministry incorporating this faithful congregation, who began worshiping at Greenwood December 23, 2012. The Mizo congregation has grown to 73 members, and by the end of this year, due to immigration, they will increase to 100 members. They are an ethnic group from Burma and are refugees from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. They came to the United States because they were being persecuted for their Christian faith. The Mizo congregation is active in the life of Greenwood UMC by participating in the weekly community kitchen (Shepherd's Table) for fellowship and wash dishes for about 60 to 70 people. Pastor Peebles and Pastor Ralte share in communion at each other's worship services.
