Small rural congregation makes big impact at Red Bird Mission
HARRISON COUNTY, Ind. – “God is good all the time; all the time God is good; and WE shall be witnesses!” This mission statement encourages the small congregation of Perseverance Chapel United Methodist Church in rural Harrison County to continue its outreach ministry to those who desperately need relief. Perseverance volunteers make fleece blankets and scarves, collect school supplies and other necessities, send cards, money and prayers to others. This past summer, six volunteers from the small congregation (one-fourth of the total congregation) loaded vans with all kinds of much-needed supplies and traveled to Red Bird Mission in the Appalachian Mountains near Beverly, Kentucky, with the donations. This very important mission trip is just one outreach that the small group sponsors annually; even though their “numbers” may be small, they continue to serve as witnesses to a world that is suffering. The pastor at Perseverance Chapel is the Rev. Stephen McAfee, 812-968-3621.
