Mizo congregation in Greenwood triples in past year

GREENWOOD, Ind. – This past week marked the first anniversary of the Mizo (immigrants from Myanmar) congregation who meet at the Greenwood UMC. A year ago, members of the Mizo congregation had their first worship service with 38 people present. This past Sunday, Dec. 8, they celebrated with more than 100 people present. Following their 2 p.m. service, this growing congregation and many from the Greenwood UMC sat down together for dinner complete with the Mizo’s native foods. They showed radical hospitality, by preparing foods their hosts (now guests) would enjoy, too. This phenomenal growth is attributable to the amazing hospitality of Pastor In Suk Peebles of Greenwood UMC, as well as support from the Mt. Auburn and Whiteland UMCs. Mizo Pastor Lal Ralte is an amazingly loyal United Methodist, and he said the most treasured gift he’s received in the past year was a 2012 copy of The Book Discipline of The United Methodist Church – ‘gotta love him.’
