What is an Advance?

The Advance is the official designated giving arm of the United Methodist Church that ensures 100% of each gift reaches its intended mission or ministry. Through The Advance, United Methodists can support a mission project or the missionary community. The Indiana Conference and District Advance is modeled after the Advance. Churches and individuals are able to support Indiana Conference and District Advance projects by 100% of each gift reaching its intended ministry.

Who needs to submit an application?

All ministries /agencies including missionaries that are not General Board of Global Ministries missionaries, that wish to fundraise with the endorsement of the Indiana Conference. Through establishing a mutual relationship with the Conference Mission Resources team and district structure, where appropriate, promotion of the ministries will take place in the Conference and/Districts.

Can we still apply if our ministry is not a 501(c)3?

A. There are ministries and agencies that are not fundraising and are not set up to receive monetary donations. If your ministry is not fundraising and no funds will be collected and sent to your ministry please indicate this information on the application. What is the difference between Conference and District Advances?

Conference Advances have a statewide appeal and/or have a global and/or national in their focus and scope. District Advances are local in their ministry focus and serve a particular population within a District, county, or city in Indiana.

Do I need to apply for both a Conference and District Advance?

No one application for either the district or the conference will be accepted.

Where do I send the completed District Advance application?

Is my ministry ineligible if we don’t have a Local United Church Affiliation?

The "Local United Methodist Church Affiliation" applies to a ministry that has either originated within or as a result of a partnership with a local UMC. If this is not the case you may indicate "not applicable." The ministry is still eligible for consideration.

What is the difference in the Summary of projected revenue and expenses for next year and the Summary of projected revenue and expenses for request year?

All applications submitted in 2011 next year 2012 is the request year and the next year. For this application they are the same.

What is meant by Endorsement only?

Endorsement only should be checked if there are no funds being raised. If you want to solicit Churches and fund raise we are asking that you include your financial goal- How much do you hope to raise in a year as an advance? There is no guarantee of funds for any advance it depends on the giving of the churches.
