u –2013 ProjectContinuing education during adolescence is a
necessary first step for girls to overcome a history of disa
dvantage in civic life and paid employment (Coalition for Ad
olescent Girls, 2009). Did you know that adolescent girls in
Sierra Leone are often absent from school during their mens
trual cycle? Providing feminine hygiene products for adolesc
ent girls in Sierra Leone is one step that we, as United Met
hodist Women, can take toward ensuring that these girls can
continue their education. How? Over the next few months, we
are asking local units to begin sewing reusable sanitary pad
s that will be shipped to Sierra Leone following Mission u i
n July. Non-sewers (like some of us) can provide materials t
o make them, cut-out materials with patterns, etc. We’ll eve
n be working on these during our week at DePauw. Here are a f

prepare individuals kits for girls to include at least 12 p
