The Franklin United Methodist Community, a continuing care retirement community in Johnson County, just south of Indianapolis is hosting an Open House event on Friday, July 30, each from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. No reservations are required. On Friday, areas of Assisted Living will be toured during the Open House, including studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments. Both days, the professional staff will be available to answer questions concerning the needs of prospective residents. The retirement neighborhood offers a variety of living options and nearly 600 residents call the Community their “home.” A Not-For-Profit Community, seniors age 62 or older are welcome and may be of any church denomination or faith. United Methodist-related Under the Sun Cafe in Whiteland will host a marathon of music, food and fellowship on Saturday, July 31 and Sunday, August 1. "JC ROCKS!" begins with two hours of Blue Moon Bluegrass at 1 p.m. on July 31, and ends with music by the Under the Son Praise Band on Sunday, Aug. 1 from 11a.m. to 1 p.m. In between there'll be contemporary Christian bands, alternative rock/fusion, Southern Gospel and an evening with Act Up!, a local Christian improv group. The cafe will have food available for sale throughout the event ranging from sandwiches and desserts on Saturday to breakfast foods on Sunday morning. Under the Sun Café is located at 250 North US 31 in Whiteland, just south of Indianapolis.

LAKE JUNALUSKA, N.C. (UMNS) – The third annual Lake Junaluska Peace Conference, Sept. 18-21, will offer a variety of workshops and presentations that explore social issues facing children. The conference will include a session specifically for children, youth and their adult leaders, led by Jeni Stepanek. Other conference leaders include Marian Wright Edelman and United Methodist Bishop Kenneth Carder. Early registration is available until July 31. The Parthenon in Athens, Greece will be one of many stops on Paul’s missionary journey cruise on the Mediterranean Sea hosted by Bishop Coyner next year. Join Indiana Bishop Mike Coyner and the Indiana Conference on a 13-day cruise in November 2011. Working with Educational Opportunities, Coyner has chosen a customized trip that offers a unique opportunity. Participants will visit the Parthenon in Athens, stand on the synagogue bema where Paul preached in Corinth, worship in the ancient marble city of Ephesus, spend a day around the Sea of Galilee in Israel, visit the Giza Pyramids in Egypt, and explore ancient Christian Rome, including a visit to the Coliseum. Nationally recognized Christian rock band, 1000 Generations, will be at Castleton United Methodist Church in Indianapolis on Saturday, Aug.14. They will lead the 6 p.m. worship service, then perform a FREE concert at 7 p.m. The four piece, piano driven group is led by the husband and wife team of Steven and Amanda Potaczek. They are joined by bassist Alain Picard and drummer Lorin Lemme. Touring nationally, the band is based in Indianapolis. The group is also scheduled to perform on Sunday, Aug. 15 at the Indiana State Fair. Castleton United Methodist Church is located at 7101 North Shadeland Avenue in Indianapolis. Rejuvenate is partnering with Indiana Conference Director of Financial Services Jennifer Gallagher to host regional training events for church treasurers. The half-day training event is for those church treasurers who are veterans, as well as for those treasurers who are new to the position.

United Methodist Women of Indiana’s fall celebration and Annual Meeting are being planned to draw younger women and children and appeal to its more seasoned membership. The event set for Friday and Saturday, Oct. 8 and 9 at Castleton United Methodist Church in the Indianapolis area hopes to attract children and youth of all ages. The Indiana women are intent on educating its future membership on the United Methodist Women’s PURPOSE of knowing God, being supportive and being in mission.
The event begins on Friday, Oct. 8 with an intergenerational evening planned around children and youth, grandmothers, mothers and others. Participants will enjoy fellowship and a variety of interactive games and pizza. The open-ended time frame of 6:30 to 9 p.m. ET encourages persons to come and go as desired.
The intergenerational event continues Saturday, Oct. 9. The day includes election and installation of 2011 conference officers, Communion, focus groups and packaging mission items that participants are asked to bring. Local units, mission committees, and youth groups are encouraged to begin collecting items for birthing kits, health kits, and layette kits. NASHVILLE, Tenn. (GBOD) – Steve Manskar says the United Methodist Church can experience revival by rediscovering its heritage. He says such practices as the focus on lay pastoral leadership and class meetings were pretty much “de-emphasized in order to attract people to the church.” Manskar is hosting a Wesleyan Leadership Conference Oct. 14-16 in Nashville, Tenn. Children of Abraham: In 2003, a few community members in Northwest Indiana began discussing how to better understand each other by defining common goals and helping others globally. Children of Abraham, Inc., a 100 percent volunteer-driven nonprofit organization, was formed in 2004 with the principal mission of helping relieve suffering around the world by providing free medical supplies and equipment to medically underserved countries. Children of Abraham is supported by the North District United Methodist Church, St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church and the Northwest Indiana Islamic Center. They have already sent four shipments of supplies to Haiti and are working on a fifth.
