PraiseFest at St. Mark’s!, a community event hosted by St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Carmel, will kick off summer with exceptional entertainment and special events June 4-10. From contemporary Christian rock to a performance by the 2010 Small Choir Most Powerful Voices small gospel choir, James Andrews and New Seasons and worship under the tent, PraiseFest will light the spirit in all ages! St. Luke’s UMC in Indianapolis welcomes U.S. Senator George McGovern to St. Luke’s (100 W. 86th Street, Indianapolis) on Sunday, June 6. He will be speaking at all three morning worship services (8:15, 9:30 and 11 a.m.). McGovern will speak on the topic of world hunger. Copies of his book Ending Hunger Now, as well as his recent TIME-LIFE series book, Abraham Lincoln, will be available for purchase and signing.

What is the culture of your congregation –one of generosity or one of scarcity? How can your congregation be known as a congregation of generosity? The Rev. Bill Enright, Executive Director of The Lake Institute on Faith and Giving, will conduct a four-night seminar for congregations and clergy who want to enhance the vitality of their congregations by becoming generous congregations. Advent, Christmas and Epiphany: Lections from the Hebrew Bible for Preaching and Worship with the Rev. Dr. Rick Lowery will be held Tuesday, Aug. 17 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Christian Theological Seminary, Room 166, 1000 West 42nd Street, Indianapolis, IN 46208.
Lowery will explore the Hebrew Bible lectionary for Advent, Christmas and Epiphany in the coming year, reflecting in light of ancient social, economic, and political contexts on God’s irrepressible mission of healing a broken world. Lowery is affiliated professor of Hebrew Bible at Phillips Theological Seminary and adjunct professor at Lexington Theological Seminary. “Treasures of Renewal” with William J. Abraham of Southern Methodist University
Wesleyan Theological Forum – This event will focus on the treasures of Methodism for the renewal of the church’s mission. Professor Abraham will kick off our first Theological Forum that will foster ongoing conversation and action regarding the Wesleyan way of discipleship.

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (UE) – The United Methodist-related University of Evansville is inviting all female military veterans to campus next month for a special day honoring women veterans. The Honoring Women Veterans Conference will be held Saturday, June 26, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Eykamp Hall of UE’s Ridgway University Center. Co-presented by the Evansville Vet Center, the day-long event is free for all women veterans and includes everything from workshops with the most up-to-date information on veteran benefits to a keynote lecture by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs top advisor on women veterans, Center for Women Veterans Director, Irene Trowell-Harris.

The Retired Ministers and Spouses of the north area of the Indiana Conference will have two opportunities to meet this summer. The meetings will take place at Wesley Manor, 1555 North Main Street in Frankfort, Ind. on Thursday, July 15 and at Epworth Forest Conference Center, 8580 E. Wesley Lane in North Webster on Tuesday, Aug. 3. Both meetings will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will include lunch. The program will be provided by Bishop Sheldon Duecker and the Rev. Jean Brindel. They will share plans for the Epworth Forest renovations and expansions. A business meeting will follow the 12 noon lunch. Cost is $5 per person with reservations due to the Rev.
