News for those participating in the Mini-Marathon May 8 in downtown Indianapolis

Roberts Park UMC in downtown Indianapolis will host its annual Mini-marathon worship service prior to the 13.1 race. This brief service will be held at 6 a.m. for runners, walkers and volunteers. It’s a chance to prepare body, mind and soul for the 13.1 mile race. The service will conclude by 6:30 a.m. to give participants ample time to arrive at the starting line, just 8 short blocks away. Roberts Park is located at 401 N. Delaware and parking is available just east of the church. Let the runners in your congregation know of this unique opportunity.

Educators Gerardo Marti and Kevin Dougherty will explore with attendees the social trends of diversity and how faith communities reflect these wider developments. It’s not too late to sign your church up for That Thing 2010 at Epworth Forest

That Thing, a high school camp and program of Impact 2818 Outdoor Ministries, has a special opportunity to sign your group up for the 3rd week, July 11-16.

If your church has a group of high school students who would enjoy an amazing, Christ-centered and way-fun experience at Epworth, we want to get you all here. Uncomfortable about securing a lodge? No problem, we would like to offer you this chance to plan your summer worry free.

Simply let us know how many tickets you will need for your students and we will partner you up with other groups in a shared community lodge.

Tickets are simply $290 for each student. This special only applies to Week 3, July 11-16.

The church must send adult leader/s with your students. Leaders have no cost except food and only if you choose to do Epworth’s food service.

You can either choose camp food service ($80 ea.) or you can cook your food in your lodge.

Our mission is to make disciples of Jesus Christ and our goal is to fill up every spot at That Thing. If your group hasn’t signed up yet, simply call Ryan Gernand (Gern) at 574-834-2212 ex.1003 and we will get you booked today! What tickets are still available at That Thing 2010?

  • Week 1 – June 27-July 2, only Day Tickets remain…Campus House and Group Lodges are Sold Out.

Indiana Conference Mission Volunteers Resource team offers leader training workshop

United Methodist Committee on Relief Trainer Penny Krug, will lead a Volunteers In Mission Team Leader Training event on Saturday, May 22, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. (ET) at Northwest United Methodist Church, 21855 Brick Road in South Bend, Ind. This training is for leaders and/or participants of work teams and youth leaders.

The cost is $7 per person plus $25 for VIM Training Manual (only 1 needed per church). Please bring a sack lunch. Topics include: How to plan a mission trip, where to go when your church wants to send a team, spiritual enrichment, being a team member, cultural sensitivity, insurance and liability forms regardless of where you go, issues of risk, and answers to questions. Registration deadline is May 15.

Friends of Africa University to hold breakfast at Annual Conference

Friends of Africa University plan to hold a breakfast meeting on Saturday, June 12 at 7a.m. during the Indiana Annual Conference at Ball State University in Muncie. Tickets are $7. If you are not a member of annual conference but can come for the breakfast, please call 877-781-6706 to reserve your ticket/s. The Rev. Glen Robyne of the Wesley Foundation at Purdue will be the speaker. He and a group of students will just have returned from three weeks in Zimbabwe, especially spending time at Africa University. This will be an opportunity to hear the latest news from the campus. Please share this information with others from your church who will be attending Annual conference this year. Rejuvenate announces Generosity workshop at Indy Sept 13-16

The purpose of the Rejuvenate Project is to strengthen the quality of pastoral leadership and enhance the vitality of Indiana United Methodist congregations. Using experimental and systematic approaches that reflect United Methodist-Wesleyan financial teachings, Rejuvenate develops financial, intellectual, spiritual and institutional resources to alleviate the financial burdens of pastors, which adversely affect pastoral performance.

Rejuvenate has partnered with the Rev. Dr. William Enright, a national speaker and executive director of The Lake Institute on Faith and Giving, to assist us with fulfilling our purpose.

Next fall, Enright will conduct a four-night seminar for congregations and clergy who want to enhance the vitality of their congregations by becoming generous congregations. The workshop, titled “Creating Congregational Cultures of Generosity,” will be held Sept. 13-16 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Irvington United Methodist Church, 30 North Audubon Road, Indianapolis, IN 46219.
