GARRETT-EVANGELICAL OFFERS EVENTS FOR BLACK HISTORY MONTH
The Center for the Church and the Black Experience has organized a panel series during Black History Month at United Methodist-related Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, Ill. on compelling topics related to Black Church Ministries in “Post-Racial” America. The underlying issue for each panel and for the series in general is that many social factors that helped define purpose and identity for black churches through the mid-20th century have been called into question by cultural, ideological, and demographic shifts occurring in recent decades.
All events will be available live via Web casts. Those interested can go to www.garrett.edu within 30 minutes of the event and follow log-in instructions on the home page.
Following is the schedule of events and panelists:
- “Black Churches and the Ongoing Struggle for Civil Rights”
- Tuesday, Feb.9, Garrett-Evangelical Seminary, 1:30-5:00 p.m.
- “Black Churches and the New Demographics of Urban Ministry”
- Tuesday, Feb. 16, Garrett-Evangelical Seminary, 1:30-5:00 p.m.
- “African American Churches, Globalization, and Global Solidarities”
- Friday, Feb. 26, Garrett-Evangelical Seminary, 1:30-3:00 p.m.
COLLEGE GOAL SUNDAY HELPS COLLEGE-BOUND INDIANA STUDENTS
College Goal Sunday (Feb. 21) gives college-bound Indiana students the chance to meet with financial aid experts from Indiana colleges and universities to receive help completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Most colleges, universities and vocational/technical schools require students seeking federal financial aid, including grants and loans, to complete the FAFSA. Your FAFSA form must be received by the federal processor on or before March 10. Twenty-first Century Scholars are required to complete and submit a FAFSA form to claim their Twenty-first Century Scholarships. College Goal Sunday will help all college-bound students, including Twenty-first Century Scholars, complete the FAFSA properly.
College Goal Sunday 2010 will take place at 2 p.m. (local time), Sunday, Feb. 21, at 37 sites in 31 Indiana communities. The program will begin promptly at 2 p.m., and most sites close by 4 p.m. For more information, visit www.collegegoalsunday.org.
