District Days for 2012

Coyner announced that his customary District Days will include an evening reception so he can meet and greet Hoosier United Methodists across the state as he begins his third and final term as the Resident Bishop of Indiana.

"Back Home Again in Indiana"

I have received my assignment from the North Central Jurisdiction Committee on Episcopacy, and I have been assigned to serve a third term in the Indiana Area which means that I will be the bishop in Indiana until August 31, 2016 at which time I intend to retire. I feel very blessed to be assigned “back home again” in Indiana, because I love being with the people called United Methodists in Indiana, and I also believe that we have much work to do here.

You all know me well enough to know that I will not spend the next four years retiring. That is not my nature or my style of leadership. Rather, I want to make the most of these next four years, and so I will be soliciting your input about how best to use these years for the long-term good of the Indiana Conference.

This fall I will be having a series of “District Days” just as I have done twice per year since we became the new Indiana Conference. Normally I meet with the district superintendent, district staff, and other individuals and groups selected by the DS. This fall, however, there will be a new twist on my District Days: at the request of our Indiana Committee on Episcopacy, each of those District Days will include a Reception to be a kind of “welcome back” for me, and I also want to use those times to speak briefly about my hopes for the next four years and to hear from you. Please note the following schedule of my District Days and plan on attending an early evening Reception (no meal, just some snacks and time to greet one another with a brief presentation). The exact times and locations of these Receptions will be decided and announced by each district later. For now please plan on attending the Reception either in your own district or in a neighboring district if that fits your schedule better:

  • September 20 – Northwest District
  • October 1 – North District
  • October 3 – West District
  • October 11 – Central District
  • October 18 – North Central District
  • October 22 – Southwest District
  • October 23 – Southeast District
  • October 29 – Northeast District
  • November 1 – East District
  • November 13 – South District

I look forward to seeing many of you at one of these District Days where we can share our thoughts about how to make the most out of these next four years together.

In the meantime, please know that I am rejoicing for the continued opportunity and the responsibility to serve as your bishop.

God bless you.
