Day 9 - June 8, 2012
Make room for the brokenhearted, children, and youth
Luke 5:30-32 (NIV1984)
30 But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law who belonged to their sect complained to his disciples, “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?” 31 Jesus answered them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. 32 I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
Psalm 69:20 (NIV1984)
20 Scorn has broken my heart and has left me helpless; I looked for sympathy, but there was none, or comforters, but I found none.
Isaiah 59:20-21 (NIV1984)
20 “The Redeemer will come to Zion, to those in Jacob who repent of their sins,” declares the LORD. 21 “As for me, this is my covenant with them,” says the LORD. “My Spirit, who is on you, and my words that I have put in your mouth will not depart from your mouth, or from the mouths of your children, or from the mouths of their descendants from this time on and forever,” says the LORD.
Thank you for The United Methodist Church and the great cloud of witnesses who continue to serve you in it. Thank you for John Wesley and his passion for preaching and witnessing to all people, especially the poor and excluded. Please help us be mindful of Wesley's example and equip us to reach out and demonstrate your love to everyone. Lord, open our hearts and make room in them for you and for the brokenhearted who need us to show them your love and comfort.
We thank you, Lord, for godly parents who are willing to take the time to train their children to become strong Christians. We pray for the children and youth of our communities to be drawn to the churches for their wisdom and fellowship of believers. Help our churches bustle with children and youth activities because they are our future – your future – as well as our present. It is our prayer that our churches are willing to invest our time, talents, and money into developing programs to train these generations to become godly citizens – for such a time as this – and to be future leaders in this world.
Please hear our prayers for the brokenhearted, our children, and our youth. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.
