Cards of caring campaign requested by conference Implementation Team

In light of the tragedies that have directly affected the lives of hundreds in Newtown and Sandy Hook, Conn., Granbury, Texas and Moore, Okla., the Indiana Annual Conference Session Implementation Team requests members and guests of the upcoming session to bring signed greeting cards from churches, Sunday schools classes and other groups in the church to be given to survivors of these disasters letting them know we are thinking about and praying for them in their recovery. On the face of each envelope, write either:

  • To the People of Newtown UMC in Sandy Hook, Conn.,
  • To the People of Granbury, Texas or
  • To the People of Moore, Oklahoma,

so our team knows where to send each card. Annual Conference members and guests are requested to bring the cards to the Prayer Room at the Annual Conference Session in the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis. Three baskets designated with the names of these three places for those bringing the cards to place the cards.

The team also will have materials available for people to make greeting cards to send to hurting people in these communities in the Prayer Room and at the Connect Student Ministries booth in the exhibits area of Hall J.

The Rev. Karen Powell, Indiana Annual Conference Sessions Committee chair, will hand deliver the cards to the people of Newtown UMC in Sandy Hook, Conn. later this summer. Cards to Granbury, Texas and Moore, Okla. will be sent to disaster response volunteers in those two conferences. This is one way we can show our love, care and support for the survivors of these tragedies.

If cards aren’t your thing, greet by to Newtown United Methodist Church, Granbury First United Methodist Church and Moore First United Methodist Church.
