AU Choir to join Conference Session
INDIANAPOLIS – The Africa University Choir will sing during the Fifth Session of the Indiana Annual Conference this coming June 6-8 at the Indiana Convention Center in Downtown Indianapolis. The 30-member choir, featuring rhythmic marching and singing, will give an African imprint to the conference theme: “Transform the World: Be a World Changer” using Romans 12:1-2 as the theme Scripture during the three-day conference.
The Africa University Choir has taken a central place in spreading the word on the mission and impact of Africa University. The choir has toured North America, Europe and southern Africa. It also has performed at significant Methodist gatherings such as the 20th World Methodist Conference in Durban, South Africa in August 2011 and more recently at the 2012 General Conference of the church in Tampa. Fla.
Coming with the choir will be the Rev. James Salley, executive director of the Africa University Foundation based in Nashville, Tenn. Salley will extend a challenge to conference members and guests to support an endowed chair (professorship) in agriculture and scholarship funds for students at the United Methodist-related school in Mutare, Zimbabwe. Hoosier United Methodists provided funds two decades ago for the building of four residence halls on the school’s campus. Visit africau.edu.
Other plenary presenters will include: Indiana Bishop Mike Coyner, the Rev. Cindy Reynolds (North District Superintendent), the Rev. Rob and wife Susan Fuquay (he is senior pastor of St. Luke’s UMC in Indianapolis) and the Rev. Mark Beeson, pastor of Granger Community UMC.
The conference also will include: passionate worship, laity sessions, workshops, community connection outreach events before the session, a prayer breakfast, displays, coffee area, radical hospitality, a prayer room and plenty of space to visit with and learn from United Methodists from across the state.
Pastors and Lay Members to the Indiana Annual Conference are encouraged to bring other members and friends of local churches to the conference in building a ministry team. The purpose of this event is to equip, inspire and transform participants so they can enable congregations across the state to increase their vitality and outreach in making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. Guests are welcome to join in this event.
This event is open to the public. For more information, visit www.inumc.org/ac13.
