Shoe Collection, St. Mark's UMC, Carmel

Clean your closet & recycle your gently worn shoes for a good cause! St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 126th St. & Gray Rd. in Carmel, is hosting a shoe collection drive September 11-October 2, 2016. Donations of all styles of new & gently-worn shoes in child to adult sizes will be forwarded to Changing Footprints, a local non-profit organization, for distributed to individuals, organizations & agencies wherever there is a need.

Changing Footprints realizes the great need for shoes around the world as protection from diseases and a gateway to education. Since 2005, Changing Footprints has provided to people footwear to homeless, disaster-stricken, or underprivileged people in Indiana, the United States and overseas, regardless of race, religion, gender, or ethnicity.

JoySwing Jazz Orchestra, St. Mark's UMC, Carmel

The public is invited to enjoy a lively musical concert Sunday, October 2 when the JoySwing Jazz Orchestra performs in St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 4780 E. 126th St. in Carmel.  The 4:00 PM concert will feature 20 talented musicians performing traditional hymns, spirituals and contemporary Christian songs in a swing & jazz style reminiscent of the Big Band sound. JoySwing also features musical scores from award winning arrangers & composers.

Angel's Attic Bazaar, St. Luke's UMC, Kokomo

Craft show and chicken noodle dinner on Saturday, October 8, booths from 8 a.m.-2 p.m., dinner from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at St. Luke's UMC, 700 E. Southway Blvd., Kokomo.  Lots of booths, pantry bake sale, homemade noodles, morning cinnamon rools, treasure & trinket room, gently used jewely, book room, Angel's Attic Homemade Crafts, and chicken and noodle dinner.  Carry-out dinners are available by calling 765-453-0555.  Adults are $8 and children (5 & under) are $3.  Booth rental available.  All proceeds go to missions and church ministries.

Free potatoes to be given away, St. Mark's UMC, Carmel

The Society of St. Andrew and St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Carmel are offering free potatoes to those who need them. The free potatoes will be available Saturday, October 8, beginning at 8:00 a.m. until they are gone at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 126th Street and Gray Road in Carmel. Any Hamilton County individuals, food agencies, pantries, kitchens and churches that need potatoes are invited to pick them up by entering the St. Mark’s parking lot from the church’s Gray Road entrance. This event will be held rain, snow, sleet or shine.

If you are a food agencies or pantry, reserve your potatoes before October 1 by contacting St. Mark’s Missions Coordinator Liz Rix at or call 317-846-4912 with the number of pounds your agency would like to reserve. Include the food pantry name and contact person in your e-mail as well as the name and cell number of the driver doing pick-up on October 8. Confirmation will be received on the week prior to the potato drop. Individuals do not need to make advance request for the potatoes.

How do we reconcile the tension between what we believe and what we vote for in November?

St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 126th St. & Gray Rd. in Carmel, is hosting a dinner and conversation Saturday, October 15, 5:15-7:15 p.m. to address this question as part of its Food for Thought Discussion series. Dr. Jeremiah Gibbs, Chaplain at University of Indianapolis will share his thoughts to start the conversation.

Food for Thought includes a light dinner followed by thought-provoking conversation. These programs are designed to build a culture of dialogue that reflects the neighbor-focused love of Jesus Christ.

Gibbs has served as Chaplain at the University of Indianapolis since 2009. He is a graduate of Eureka College with a Theological Studies degree in 2005 and earned a Master of Theological Studies from Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary (2007) and a Ph.D. in Theology and Ethics at Garrett (2014). Besides leading campus ministry programming and providing pastoral care at UIndy, he is also the Director of the Lantz Center for Christian Vocation and Spiritual Formation

The Mt. Olive UMW, Maron, will be having a Bazaar and Bake Sale on Saturday, October 29 from 8 a.m.-1 p.m., 2015 N. 300 W., Marion. There will be crafts, baked goods, cookies.  There will also be a "treasures booth" for gently used items.

Fall Bazaar, First UMC, Frankton

The First UMC Women's Fellowship, Frankton, will hold their annual Fall Bazaar on Saturday, November 19. Doors will open at 9 a.m. to the sights and smells of great food, gifts and treasures for the holiday season. This year, we will also open up to vendors. They include: Pampered Chef, Books for Fun, and Scentsy. The bazaar also will offer hand crafted jewelry, bake sale items, chicken and noodles, and scalloped chicken.
