EMMAUS WALK for Indianapolis Area

Youth Chrysalis Flight for Indianapolis Area is June 5 – 7th at Christ United Methodist Church in Greenwood, (8540 US 31, Indianapolis, IN 46227).  The 3-day retreat is for Sophomore through Senior in High School.  Chrysalis is a time for youth to become stronger in their faith and begin to become leaders in their church, school and community.  To receive a registration form, go to (indyemmaus.org).  If you need more information, contact Rev. "Am I Being Unfair to You"  based on Matthew 20:1-16 is the theme for World Day of Prayer. This celebration is on March 3, at Southport Christian Church, 201 E Epler Avenue.  Written by the women of the Philippines, the service will invite us to explore concepts of economic justice both in the context of the Philippines and worldwide. 

We are especially aware of the plight of the Filipino people as we read almost weekly of killings taking place in their country.  
President Rodrigo Duterte promised to kill 100,000 criminals and drug dealers in his first six months in office.  These people are not given the benefit of arrest and trial, but are simply killed. 

All are welcome to attend and be informed of this battle going on in the World. The day begins at 10 a.m. with refreshments and then is followed  with a worship service at 11:00 am. 

Human Trafficking Informational Event....SATURDAY, MARCH 4
The United Methodist Women of Southport United Methodist Church, 1947 E Southport Road, 46227, are hosting a "Human Trafficking"  event in March. The theme this year is "LET'S BOX THEM UP!" This is a football term used by the defense to box up the offense.  We are boxing up those who hurt or harm,  the criminal traffickers, and the laws that criminalize the victims of human trafficking.   On March 4, 9:00 am-noon, Tim Swarens from the Indy Star for a presentation and discussion of "Human Trafficking".  Tim has recently published an article in The Sunday Star (January 15, 2017) and another article on October 2, 2016.
Coffee and snacks will be ready by 8:45 a.m. before the program starts at 9 a.m..

SAVE THE DATE:   Saturday, April 29 from 9-3 p.m. for the annual "HEARTS IN SERVICE" group presentation.The Ladies of the  "HEARTS IN SERVICE" group will return to Southport United Methodist Church to present,  " A Fearless A.M (Isaiah 43: 1-4). with A Fruitful P.M. Old Bethel UMC

March 4 at 2:00 p.m., Old Bethel UMC will be hosting a free concert which will include Heart and Soul, a mixed ensemble of 25-30 singers from Purdue University and Purdue Bells, which is the only instrumental ensemble in Purdue Musical Organizations.  Each group has an established tradition of musical excellence with style and flair.  Heart and Soul primarily celebrates gospel, sacred and inspirational music while incorporating jazz, pop, Latin and R&B selections.  Purdue Bells blend traditional handbell ringing with innovative techniques to play styles from classical to jazz. 

Please invite family and friends to attend this free concert.  Doors will open at 1:30 p.m. No tickets are needed.   This is an excellent opportunity to enjoy an afternoon of family entertainment.

Seminar on Stopping Human Trafficking Workshop and Luncheon – On Saturday, March 18, a Seminar on Stopping Human Trafficking will take place in Price Hall. Lunch is at 12:00 p.m. and the Program follows with Tom Overton, Director of Hope61, and Jessica Evans, Founder of Purchased in Indianapolis. It is open to anyone interested in learning more about how to stop human trafficking in Johnson County and Central Indiana and to share info about recognizing the signs of those involved in trafficking. Supervises: Volunteers who serve with the sound and visuals in worship and children’s worship

  1. Model agape love.
  2. Design, recruit a team, and implement a plan to provide sound and visuals for worship services and other gatherings.
  3. Oversee the setup of the sound/tech for worship services on Sunday and oversee the tear down of the sound/tech equipment after Sunday worship services.
  4. Works with the worship planning team and prepares slides and visuals for Sunday services.

The Office Assistant acts as the first point of contact for guests and callers and alerts others of security issues while also undertaking a variety of other administrative tasks.   As the first point of contact, the office assistant will connect with each person entering the church and interact with each ministry area and work together to fulfill the mission of making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
