North UMC

North United Methodist Church (3808 N Meridian St, Indianapolis, IN 46208) will present Requiem by Mack Wilberg as part of their Good Friday worship service beginning at 7pm on Friday, April 14. The Requiem is written for orchestra, chorus, soprano and baritone soloists. It uses two traditional texts – “Requiem aeternam” (Latin for “eternal rest”) and “Kyrie eleison” (Greek for “Lord have mercy”) – along with another Latin liturgical text, “O nata lux” (O Jesus Born of Light). The remainder is in English and includes psalms such as “I will lift up mine eyes, “ How lovely is thy dwelling place” and “The Lord is my shepherd.” Mack Wilberg said, “A Requiem does not have to do with any specific church’s dogma, I think it’s associated with consolation and solace.” Craig Jessop, conductor of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir who premiered the work describes the Requiem as “hauntingly beautiful and serene. In some ways it compels you to leave this hustle-bustle world and lulls you into deep serenity, introspection and consolation.”

All are welcome to experience this unique service. More information about North Church can be found at www.northchurchindy.com or by calling (317) 924-2612.
