Roberts Park is once again hosting the BEST Fish Fry lunch and dinner in downtown Indianapolis. Proceeds benefit ongoing local and international ministries. All are invited to enjoy great food and refreshments around comfortable dining tables in our historic building's Fellowship Hall. The event will be Thursday, September 29 and Friday, September 30, from 11am to 7pm. 

Meals are $10 and in addition the perfectly fried fish, meal options include chicken, hot dogs, desserts and soft drinks. Items can be ordered a la carte and carryout is available. Advance meal tickets can be purchased at the church. Call 317-635-1636.

Bethel UMC

Bethel United Methodist Church at 5252 West 52nd Street, Indianapolis, IN 46254, is holding its fifth annual craft fair on Saturday, October 29, 2016 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Union Chapel UMC

Union Chapel United Methodist Church, Indianapolis, is providing monthly community meals.  The last Wednesday of each month there is a free meal in the Fellowship Hall at 6:30pm.  We are located on the corner of 86th and Haverstick.  Anyone is welcome to join in the food and fellowship.

St Mark's Carmel

JoySwing Jazz Orchestra to Perform at St. Mark’s                                                                                                                      

The public is invited to enjoy a lively musical concert Sunday, October 2 when the JoySwing Jazz Orchestra performs in St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 4780 E. 126th St. in Carmel.  The 4:00 PM concert will feature 20 talented musicians performing traditional hymns, spirituals and contemporary Christian songs in a swing & jazz style reminiscent of the Big Band sound. JoySwing also features musical scores from award winning arrangers & composers.

This performance is the first in a new series of concerts, St. Mark's Presents. Upcoming shows, each beginning at 4:00 PM, are:

Free potatoes to be given away at St. Mark's

The Society of St. Andrew and St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Carmel are offering free potatoes to those who need them. The free potatoes will be available Saturday, October 8, beginning at 8:00 a.m. until they are gone at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 126th Street and Gray Road in Carmel. Any Hamilton County individuals, food agencies, pantries, kitchens and churches that need potatoes are invited to pick them up by entering the St. Mark’s parking lot from the church’s Gray Road entrance. This event will be held rain, snow, sleet or shine.

If you are a food agencies or pantry, reserve your potatoes before October 1 by contacting St. Mark’s Missions Coordinator Liz Rix at Lrix@stmarkscarmel.org or call 317-846-4912 with the number of pounds your agency would like to reserve. Include the food pantry name and contact person in your e-mail as well as the name and cell number of the driver doing pick-up on October 8. Confirmation will be received on the week prior to the potato drop. Individuals do not need to make advance request for the potatoes.

Food For Thought: Politics & Religion

How do we reconcile the tension between what we believe and what we vote for in November?

St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 126th St. & Gray Rd. in Carmel, is hosting a dinner and conversation Saturday, October 15 to address this question as part of its Food for Thought Discussion series. Dr. Jeremiah Gibbs, Chaplain at University of Indianapolis will share his thoughts to start the conversation.

Food for Thought includes a light dinner followed by thought-provoking conversation. These programs are designed to build a culture of dialogue that reflects the neighbor-focused love of Jesus Christ.

Advance reservations are requested by Monday, October 12. Childcare may be available with advance request at stmarkscarmel.org/foodforthought.

Gibbs has served as Chaplain at the University of Indianapolis since 2009. He is a graduate of Eureka College with a Theological Studies degree in 2005 and earned a Master of Theological Studies from Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary (2007) and a Ph.D. in Theology and Ethics at Garrett (2014). Besides leading campus ministry programming and providing pastoral care at UIndy, he is also the Director of the Lantz Center for Christian Vocation and Spiritual Formation

Position Summary:  The Director of Sound and Worship Tech prepares all sound and visuals for Sunday morning services and all other events. This preparation helps create an inviting worship experience which allows others to share in our mission of making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

Terms of Employment: The Director of Sound and Worship Tech is a part-time staff position.     

Reports to:   Senior Pastor/Director of Worship

Supervises: Volunteers who serve with the sound and visuals in worship and children’s worship

Position Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Model agape love.
  2. Design, recruit a team, and implement a plan to provide sound and visuals for worship services and other gatherings.
  3. Oversee the setup of the sound/tech for worship services on Sunday and oversee the tear down of the sound/tech equipment after Sunday worship services.
  4. Works with the worship planning team and prepares slides and visuals for Sunday services.
